GOAL:
To save lives and eliminate health disparities.
HOW:
Improve access to high quality prostate cancer care for all men, with the priority focus on African American, Hispanic and Latino individuals.
WHY:
Prostate cancer, striking 1 in 8 American men, is the most common and the second most lethal male cancer.
- Prostate cancer is a leading health care disparity
- Black (including Hispanic) men are at higher risk of this disease, late diagnosis, poor quality care, and death
- Early detection saves lives.
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE:
Any man aged 40 and older, living in Massachusetts and interested in a consultation with experts, who use the most advanced approaches to preventing, finding and treating prostate cancer early.
WHAT THIS PROGRAM OFFERS:
Patient advocates who address your questions and upon your request, can coordinate consultations with leading prostate cancer experts.
CONSULTATION OPTIONS:
- First expert consultation or a second opinion
- Virtual (telehealth) or in-person appointments
OUR PROGRAM CAN HELP IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR PROSTATE HEALTH:
- Are you interested in prostate cancer prevention and early detection, which is critical for saving lives?
- Are you looking for more information to decide if screening with PSA blood test is right for you (before or after a discussion with your doctor)?
- Are you at risk because members of your family (particularly your brother or father) have had prostate cancer?
- Did you have screening already and have questions about your results?
- Do you have symptoms, such as difficulties urinating or blood in your urine?
- Did your doctor recommend for you to have a prostate biopsy, and you would like to learn more about advanced non-invasive tests?
- Did your doctor tell you that you have prostate cancer, and you are looking for more information about treatment options?
- Did you experience side effects after biopsy or treatment?
- Did you have treatment already and have questions about the appropriate next steps, including prevention or early diagnosis of cancer return or progression?
