Molecular Imaging of Prostate Cancer: A "Think Tank"-Style Meeting
Goals
AdMeTech, a nonprofit corporation for the advancement of medical technologies, in partnership with Mr. Michael Milken's Prostate Cancer Foundation, organized and held a second "think tank"-style meeting devoted to Molecular Imaging of Prostate Cancer on February 1 and 2, 2004 in Washington, D.C. This meeting was sponsored by Cytogen. The first meeting, which pioneered establishment of molecular imaging of prostate cancer and served as the foundation for the development of AdMeTech's research program, was held in August 2001.
The February meeting addressed the following issues:
- Potential specific impact of molecular imaging on management of prostate cancer-the disease affecting about 40% of men.
- Potential general importance of collaborations between instrumentation development and drug development communities for the advancement of molecular imaging.
This meeting brought together some of the most exciting academic pioneers of drug development and target discovery in molecular oncology (medicine, surgery, radiation, and pathology) with leaders of government, academia, and industry in molecular imaging and technologic innovation in radiology to achieve the following goals:
- To review jointly the current state of the art and to develop the near- and long-term research directions in the area of molecular imaging of prostate cancer.
- To develop an outline of the agenda for the public conference on Image-Guided Diagnosis and Treatment of Prostate Cancer, which is planned to take place March 3-6, 2005 in partnership with the National Cancer Institute.
